THE GREEN CARPET AWARD
(Best Overall Work)

Phan Lychin is a Secondary 2 student from Nan Chiau High School. The Japanese earthquake was the inspiration behind her photo. Lychin dreams of being a teacher so she can mould generations of students to protect nature, and make them realize its fragility.

In life, many beautiful things are hidden amongst the ugliest things. New life is beautiful. Death is ugly. When there is life among death, should we be sad for the dead or happy for the new life? The dead leaves will decompose and decay, provide nutrients for the new shoot; this, I think is something worth getting excited about.

We can do nothing about the dead leaves but we can help the new shoot to grow into a new tree. When I see this picture, I think of the people in Japan; despite the deaths, should they be glad they are alive or sad because of the many who died?

Well, life goes on and I think they should be happy. Look at the bright side of the picture; the new shoot will grow into trees and provide homes for other animals.

Congratulations from
